Mission

#Socialworkers have had roles in perpetuating harmful social systems, including systemic racism, and we cannot ignore this history. However, #socialwork also has a major role in creating a more anti-racist society. By using the Code of Ethics as a guidepost, #socialworkers can help dismantle systems of oppression, take action against white supremacy culture, and be leaders in the movement for racial justice. Please read our message on actions you can take: https://buff.ly/2YjwUAv

School social workers are an integral link between school, home, and community in helping students achieve academic success. They work directly with school administrations as well as students and families, providing leadership in forming school discipline policies, mental health intervention, crisis management, and support services.

As part of an interdisciplinary team to help students succeed, school social workers also facilitate community involvement in the schools while advocating for student success.

Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000 members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.

WHY do today’s schools NEED School Social Workers?

Children today are increasingly victims of many social forces that negatively affect their role as students. The family is in a state of change and until it becomes stabilized, in whatever form, children’s unmet physical and emotional needs will continue to interfere with their ability to learn and adjust in school.
